Sept 30 – October 4

Good morning!

I hope everyone got some rest and relaxation in this weekend! Our house was quiet with the boys in our family away.

The book order should be here late this week or early next week. When it arrives, I will send it home with your child.

Special Dates:

Thursday we will be having our teddy bear clinic. Nursing students will come to the school and set up a clinic. Each class will get to visit the clinic and bring a stuffed toy to be fixed up. So please send a stuffed toy with your child on Thursday!

Home and School meeting will be on September 30 at 6:00 at the school. All are welcome to join!

Friday October 4 is walk to school day. You are invited to walk with your child to school.

Literacy:

We are getting into week 1 of Fundations. Please check your child’s bag for the work package of what we will be doing. Ask them to tell you about the letter story (the name of the letter, keyword and the sound). If you child is printing at home please remind them to start at the skyline or top of the letter, not going bottom to top 😊

Writing workshop:

We are working on drawing a picture and telling a story about it and keeping the story consistent from one telling to the next. If I wrote about my dog eating my food, then when I tell it to a friend the story stays the same.

Numeracy:

We are continuing to work on numbers 1-5. Counting forward to 10, printing the numerals, what it looks like in different ways: on your fingers, on a dice, on a ten frame, with drawings.

We are going to be counting and make groups of a given number as well (given number is 3, then the children make a set of 3 items).

Have a great week!

September 23-27

Sorry parents!! It seems my blog is not working properly….I thought that I posted this message yesterday morning but it did not go through. I will double check next week that the post actually goes through.

Good morning!I’m not off to a great start for Sunday night blog posts!! To be honest I’m wiped on the weekends…I forgot how exhausting the first weeks of kindergarten! This week we talked a lot about how we feel: blue zone-tired, sick, bored, not much energy; green zone-well rested, feeling good, ready to work (where we like to be); yellow zone-excited, anxious, silly, lots of energy (okay sometimes); red zone-out of control, angry. We talked about all of these emotions or feelings to be okay but that we need to try to bring it back to green so we are ready to learn. We are learning some breathing techniques to helps us.

Important Dates:There will be no school on Friday September 27.

Book Order:The book order is due Wednesday September 25. You can place the order online at scholastic.ca or by sending in the form with the books circle. If you buy online, you can pay online. If you send the form in, either cash or cheque would be fine. Cheque’s need to be made out to Scholastic Canada Inc.

Literacy:We are beginning Fundations today. Be expecting a package in their homework folder. We will learn the expectations of Fundations this week. Numeracy:We are talking about the number 2. We will learn how to print it, what 2 items looks. Social Studies:We continue to work on what it looks and sounds like to be a friend, what are the rules of school, green and red choices. We are printing our names and learning about our families. We began going through the family pictures and how the children got their names. If you haven’t sent a picture into the classroom or by email, you can still do that. The children are enjoying seeing all our families.
Have a great week! Kelley

September 9-13

Good afternoon!

I sure am glad to be back into a routine. It is challenging for the children at this time of year to be rested and ready to learn. Lots of sleep helps them to be their best each day (and lots of rest for me too!)

These next few weeks we are learning more about each other and ourselves which goes along with our social Studies outcomes. We will be exploring our names, starting to print them, sorting by first letter and building them with different items.

We have been practicing our fire drill and getting really good. We will have our first whole school drill this week.

Please remember when you are dropping your children off in the morning to let your child out near the metal barriers in the drop off loop. Parents are NOT permitted to park in the staff parking lot. Also if you are dropping your child off in the morning, you need to drop them off in the lobby. If you need to come down to the classroom, you need to sign in at the office and have a tag before coming down. After school if you are picking up your child, you need to wait in the lobby. Parents are NOT permitted in the bus loop. Make sure that you have contact with me before taking your child. If someone else is picking up your child please inform them of this routine as well.

We will have Meet the Staff night on Thursday September 12 at 6:00pm and a second round at 6:25 to accommodate parents with two children in the school.

Hot Lunch orders will begin on Monday September 16. I will send information to register tomorrow.

If you have not sent back your paperwork for your child (information, early closure, etc) please send it back tomorrow.

Our school photos will be on Monday September 16. We do not know what time they will happen just the date.

I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday evening! Kelley
