Friday November 1

Hello all! I hope that tomorrow night is a good, dry night for all the Halloween fun! On Friday we will be having a Pajama day in our class.

The children are invited to wear PJ’s to school. They can also bring a small blanket and stuffed toy (they have to fit in their backpack).

Also please send in no more than 2 treats per day in your childs snack. Anything else will be sent back home. Thanks for your cooperation 😊

October 28-November 1

Good morning parents!

I wanted to start off by mentioning that I have a number of children arriving to school late each day. I know a few minutes doesn’t seem like much but by the time they finish getting ready for the day, they are missing upwards of 15-20 minutes of class time. In January this could be there reading time. I do not have time to go back and re-teach lessons that I have already done which means the children miss out. Also today 4 children were late and we had music at 8:30. They missed half of the class. Please have your child at school by 8:20. I do understand that on occasion, things happen and you run late but this is happening frequently. Thank you for you help with this.

As well please send an email and contact the office if your child will be absent or late to school.

Parent teacher interviews:

The online interview webpage is now open for you to sign up to meet with me about your child’s progress. Please go to the site and register an account to sign up. I am unable to do this for you. If there is not a time listed that you can attend, please contact me via email and we can set something up. The interviews are 15 minutes long.

Literacy:

We have two new letter this week: a, g

We have also been talking about words in a sentence, counting how many words are in a sentence, that we need a capital or uppercase letter at the beginning, we need spaces between each word and a period at the end. We talked a lot about words are made up of letters and syllables in words. If you place your hand under your chin when you say a word, you can feel the syllables in a word 🤯 I know cool huh!

We are also talking about the beginning sounds of words. This is something you can work on with your child just about anywhere, the rink, home, grocery store. Tell them you see something that begins with the sound…., or ask them what sound does _____ begin with? Make sure they tell you the sound not the letter 😊

Numeracy:

We continue to work on numbers to 5. Building, counting, before and after, more less and the same. We will soon begin working on sorting and patterns. After Christmas break we will begin numbers 6-10.

Halloween:

We will have a Halloween parade and party on Thursday. If you signed up for treats please send them in Thursday morning 😊

Please leave toy weapons, masks and any important pieces home. We are allowed face paint (but not too scary!!)

Have a great week 😊

Few Things

Hi Parents!

Our class is looking for a few household items. We would love any empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls that you have at home. If you have any other recyclable items you think we could use for building and creating feel free to send it in 😊

I put school pictures in the homework folders today. I packed them in the school bags so I hope they made it home okay 😊

We will have our Halloween party on Thursday. Treats: Felix, Callum. Drinks: Vincent, Darin

Please remember our food restrictions at school when sending in treats for our party 😊

Have a good weekend!

October 21-24

Wow, this month is flying by!! I can’t believe we will be coming to Halloween in 9 days 😳. We will be having a small party on Halloween day in the classroom. If you signed up to send treats please send them the morning of the party. I will check the list at school and send a reminder.

The children are allowed to wear their costumes to school. We will have a parade around the school to show our costumes to everyone. Please do not send something to school that is important to your child’s costume. I do not have time to look for lost pieces and pieces can get broken.

Literacy:

We will be learning about the letters c and o this week in Fundations. We will also focus some attention on syllables in a word.

I have begun to encourage the children to use our trick words when they are writing.

Numeracy:

We are continuing our work on numbers 1-5. We are counting sets, building sets of items, counting forward and backwards from 1-10. We are comparing groups of items, which has more, less and equal. Also we are discussing how we know the answer. (I know that this group has more because 5 is a bigger number than 2).

Parent-Teacher Conferences:

Yesterday I sent home a paper to show how to set up an interview to discuss your child’s progress. We only use the online form to set up the appointments. Once you create an account and the system opens, you will be able to see what available appointments are there. If there is no possible times you can meet, please send me a message and we can see if we can find a time. I enjoy getting to meet all the parents and discussing your child and all the great things they are doing!!

Have a great week 😊

October 14-18

Hello everyone! I hope you had a very good weekend. It’s nice to be able to spend some extra time with our families!

Literacy:

This weeK we will be learning some new letters. I will send the homework package home tomorrow. Please practice the letters and printing with your child if you have time. This will re-enforce what they are learning in the classroom.

We have 5 Trick Words that have bee introduced: I, like, see, can, you

These are Trick words because they can’t be sounded out and need to be memorized. Playing games and reviewing these with your child will help them remember the words. These are words they will be using in their writing and reading.

In writing we are still working on drawing a picture and telling a story about what we drew. I encourage the children to write any words or letters that they know.

Numeracy:

We continue to work on the numbers 1-5 by building sets of numbers, counting forward and backward, and printing the numbers. We also are looking at different ways to make the numbers 1-5, like on a ten frame, dice, with our fingers, tally marks, which number comes before and which number comes after.

Another concept we will begin talking about is more, less and equal. We will build sets of numbers that are more, less and equal to a given number and say how we know the answer (4 is more than 2 because when we count 2 comes first so it’s a smaller number).

Have a great week!

October 7-11

Good morning parents. I seem to be working on a Better late than never concept this year with the blog!! Every time I picked up my phone to write a post, something would come up and it didn’t get done. I will try to be more efficient and get the posts written on Sunday evenings.

The school is hosting a food drive. If you would like to donate food items. You can send something in with your child or drop it off in the lobby.

We will be having a school wide lockdown drill tomorrow morning. We will practice in class so the children will know what to do.

We will NO SCHOOL on Friday October 11 and 14. A nice long weekend for the children to rest up.

We have been working on the letters: t, b, f, n, m

We are learning about the sounds they make, things that begin with that sound, how to form the letter.

The forming of the letters take lots of practice and is developmental difficult for some children but with practice they will learn them. It is important if you are printing with you child that you ensure that they start their letters at the top and not at the bottom. This helps prevent reversal of the letter (printing them backwards).

I am sending home a laminated copy of our printing board from school. You and your child can practice printing the letters that we are doing in school. This can be kept at home. Each week I send the verbal path of the letter formation. We say this when we make the letters (t is a skyline letter. Point to the skyline. Go down to the grass line. Cross on the plane line. T top /t/). Practicing these will help your child retain the information quicker.

We are still working on numbers 1-5.

Have great week!
