How is it possible that we are at the last week of November already?!? This month flew by!!

Friday we will be having crazy hair/hat day in support of Special Olympics, please send in $1.00 if you have one.

Please make sure to send splash pants or snow pants, hats and mittens each day. The children go out everyday unless it is not raining. It is getting cold!

Literacy:

We have two new letters this week: p, j. I will send home the Fundations package today. Mae are really working on hearing the beginning sounds of words (cat begins with the sound /c/).

We learned last week about labeling our pictures which will transfer into our writing later on.

Numeracy:

We are working on sorting and the children love it!! We have talked about attributes, what is the same about items. Ask your child how these items were sorted.

Have a good week!

November 18-22

It’s great to be back to a routine and a 5 day week! I hope it doesn’t rain all week 😔

Literacy:

We are back to Fundations this week. The homework has been sent home last night. We have two new letters: e, r. Please practice printing and recognizing the letters.

We continue to work on beginning sounds of words and being able to say the sound.

These are the Trick Words we have so far:

Can, I, like, see, the, to, we, you

Playing games with these words will help with the recognition of them.

Mathematics:

We have moved into sorting! We are talking about attributes (how to describe something, or what an item has in common). We will be sorting lots of items by different attributes. Once we have that concept we will move into patterns.

We always continue to count and build sets.

Music:

We are practicing for our Christmas concert! Be prepared to hear the same songs over and over (and over) again!!

The concert date is December 10th, with a storm date of December 13.

There will be two concerts, one afternoon (1:10) and one evening (6:00). There will be tickets passed out closer to the date. We usually have a set amount per family and that’s all we can give.

Have a good week!

Book Order

The book order came today but it was a little bit confusing. The list that tells me who orders which books had no names listed beside some books, and grouped books together with multiple children. I believe I got them straightened out but if there is a mistake please let me know and I will try to fix it.

The books are in the homework folder.

Have a great weekend!

November 11-15

Hello parents!

I hope you all had a relaxing long weekend and were able to remember all the soldiers that fought to keep us safe.

We have a very short week this week. There is no school Thursday or Friday for teacher conference.

There will be no Fundations this week so I can assess the students learning. Once this is complete we will set up groups for students who need a boost in letter recognition and sounds. If your child requires this group a letter will go home.

Math is a review of skills and next week we will begin some sorting.

The book order is on its way to us but will be passed out next week when we get back.

Have a good week!

Report Cards

Hello parents!

Your child’s report card is in their homework folder today. Inside is a note explaining about a technical problem. Please note that it says that your child is in French Immersion, and that there a lot of empty spaces. It also has marks in second term. In addition there are grammatical errors. Due to the technical challenges, these things could not be fixed before report cards were sent out. We will have it fixed for next term. Thank you for your patience with the technical difficulties 😊

Please review the report card and come with any questions tomorrow and Friday. Please return the envelope the report card is in and keep the report card at home.

November 4-8

Good morning!

I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s always good to get some time to catch up and rest.

Please remember to sign up for a meeting to discuss your child’s progress if you haven’t already.

We will have no school on Friday because of the interviews.

Book Fair:

We will be visiting the book fair on Wednesday November 6 at 11:30. If you would like your child to purchase a book send in money. There is not much under $5.00. I will send a flyer home tonight. Please send the money in their homework folder the morning of the book fair and we will go as a class. They can also visit the book fair on Thursday and you can look the night of parent teacher meetings.

Literacy:

We are beginning our 6th week of unit 1 in Fundations. We will begin assessments next week to make sure the children are learning the letters and sounds and the printing. Our 2 new letters are d and s.

we are beginning to write the sounds that are heard in words. For some children it’s the beginning sounds and some having ending and middle sounds. Continue to talk to your child about the sounds that they hear at the beginning of words.

Numeracy:

We are going to begin sorting items and then moving into patterns from now to Christmas break.

We will continue working on numbers 1-5, especially printing the numbers. The children find it challenging to print the numbers.

Have a good week! I look forward to meeting with you all this week.
