Early Reader Books

Hey Parents!

I just wanted to show you a set of books that may be good for your children to practice some reading. Most of the children would be fine with levels A, B or C but some maybe ready for D, or even E.  They are available at Indigo and Amazon both.  I believe Indigo has curbside pick up now.  Anyway, these are not necessary but would be not too bad for kindergarten readers 🙂 If you want to see the inside of the books, Amazon has some pictures in the ratings.  Both Indigo and Amazon have similar pricing, it would just be the wait time for delivery.

At school when we are looking at a new book for the first time, we do a walk through.  A walk through is just looking at the pictures and talking about what is happening in them.  I like to use some of the words from the book to describe the picture. For example in the picture below (level A) I would ask the children “what do you see in this picture?” I might say something like “It looks like it’s warm, maybe it’s summer but it might be spring” or “Look at the sun, it is shining!” So I don’t talk about the actual words at first but just about the pictures. Once we do that, we go back and read the words together and then finally I let the children read the books themselves.  Let them try to figure out the words themselves but for no more than 30 seconds so they don’t get frustrated 🙂
