Listen for sounds (long/short): tap/tape, bit/bite, teen/ten, light/lit
Find items around your house and tap them out. Say the sounds and write them down. Or if your child isn’t ready for tapping the whole word, just the beginning sounds
Ms. Erin is a teacher at our school who works with children to help develop social skills and work on areas of need for the children. She also works with the children to do Fundations. Here is a video that she did. I believe she has a few that you can watch.
Good morning! What a weekend we had! I loved all the sunshine even though it was a bit cold. I have friends in Cape Breton that had a huge snow storm, so that is something to be thankful for!
Here is my video for today:
Fundations: Practice printing the 5 letters, print the words that I say. More words to tap and write:Zip, wet, web, wig, yes
Listen to the story: No More Noisy Nights Parents when listening to this book make Predictions: The story is repetitive, so it lends itself very well for students to make predictions as well as choral read the repetitive words, “Then he relaxed in his favorite chair. At nine o’clock, Jackson climbed into bed.” Stop the story after this part to ask students to predict what will happen next. Also talk about what went wrong? How was the problem fixed?
Math: Draw a picture of a flower garden. Make a pattern with your flowers. What kind of pattern did you make? Was it an AB (two color/type pattern) or something different?
Art: Make some puffy paint and paint a picture with it
We have finished two weeks of online learning! Craziness!! Who ever thought this might happen?!? Anyone we are rolling with it. If you have any feedback that you’d like to share about how it’s going, I’d love to hear from you. Just send along an email and I will get back to you ASAP.
I love all this sunshine we are getting! Although the snow yesterday was a bit much! I just put up a little bit of stuff today and thought if you would like more work you could go back and do some activities from earlier in the week or last week that you didn’t do but wanted to try. Please remember that you are only required to do 30 minutes of work each day with your kindergartener. But once again, do what you feel is appropriate for your house with all that you are trying to balance at this point. Some days I’m sure you can accomplish more and some days less, it will all equal out in the end!
Also there is a great site that has learning games for math called Splash learn. It’s free to sign up if you want an account: splash learn
Here is my here video for today:
Fundations: Print the 5 letters that we reviewed today.
I’m so sorry! I realized just this morning that I posted my blog for yesterday to my other page again. I thought that I had double checked before it was posted but noticed it wasn’t here this morning. I put it over to this blog today so there will be two posts for today.
You can pick and choose which one you would like to do. Yesterday was just a fun book and some fun things to do. So sorry again! I will be extra careful to see where I am posting from now on.
Also don’t forget to check out the other pages on the main menu. There are lots of resources that I am posting on those pages. The chapters from Magic Tree House are on there if your child wants to hear the book.
Here is the video for today:
Fundations: Practice printing the 5 letters. Print upper and lowercase
Listen to the story: The Seed (in the video)
Play Game: Hide Easter eggs in the house with letters inside. Then go and find the eggs and see what letter is inside. Draw a picture of something that begins with that letter. You could also put our trick words inside the eggs then hide, find and write those too. Easter egg Hunt List
I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and kind words during this difficult time. You all are doing a fantastic job teaching your children at home. I love seeing all the smiling faces and all the busy hands working on different projects! Please remember to do what you can when you can and you are more than welcome to send pictures of what you are doing but it is not a requirement! I trust that you are all doing your best and kindergarten children learn best through play, love and experiences.
PS: I love the faces that the video freezes on, lol! I make some funny faces haha!
Here is my video for today:
Johnathan’s Show and Tell Video and his rock writing:
Fundations: print upper and lowercase letters that we talked about today.
Melt above 3 ingredients together and pour into a large bowl and mix well.
Add cereal and stir until well coated. Using empty cereal bag pour in alternate layers of icing sugar and cereal a bit at a time. Then shake to coat and let set.
I hope you had a great Easter weekend! I know it was an exciting one at our house, but definitely different. I am enjoying seeing all the fun things that all the children are doing! Parents you are doing a great job! Please remember to do what you can from my plans and do family building activities too. Make some cookies (numbers and sequencing, motor skills), fold laundry (motor skills), go for walks (science), play board games (problem solving, numbers, social skills) all of these activities cover out comes from kindergarten!
Here is my video for today:
Fundations: Practice printing the letters from the video, uppercase and lowercase.
Math: Take a car walk: Do a survey to see how many red cars and blue cars are in your neighbourhood. If you live in the country, do a different kind of survey (horses or cows) or survey people in your house. Which item has the most votes? Play countdown to 10. (survey paper in extra resources or make your own)
Read a book: Raz-Kids, Epic Books, or Tumble books (I added links in the extra resources pages)
